Hello,
My name is Emily Rivera, and I am pleased to announce that I will be your child’s Spanish Kinder Immersion teacher. This is a new program here at Barton Creek, and I am so excited to see our students become bilingual and biliterate.
I am originally from Harlingen, Texas where I spent my entire childhood. Many of my family members still live there and farm cotton on our family farm. Growing up as a farmers kid I learned the value of hard work and dedication. Growing up in South Texas was the beginning of my exposure to other languages and cultures.
I moved to Denton, Texas for college where I attended the University of North Texas and received my degree in Merchandising with a minor in Business. After graduation and working in the business world, I decided that I truly wanted to become an educator. I went through an alternative certification program in Dallas in 2005, and that was the beginning of my education journey. I will be beginning my 11th year in education here at Barton Creek. In my past years of experience I have taught both bilingual, monolingual, and worked in education administration. I have taught pre-kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades as well as worked for the Texas Literacy Initiative grant for three years.
I am happily married with two beautiful boys ages 8 and 11. This past year was quite a shift for us as we were living and working in Dorado, Puerto Rico and then moved quickly back to Texas after hurricane Maria devastated the island. Thankfully we have wonderful family and friends who helped us get back to Texas and plant our roots here again.
I am blessed to have the opportunity to be here at Barton Creek Elementary, and I look forward to teaching your children this year!
Hola,
